A computer is not really a spiritual thing, it is not alive. It is hardware and software. Either everything is working correctly, or it isn't.
Hardware components may be weak and outdated or damaged. Software may have viruses or just not working efficiently. Try to update all of your drivers. I think macs especially are designed to try to prevent you from using other operating systems, and they use some special hardware components developed by Apple that need specific Apple drivers to work correctly, which are included in the mac operating system but are probably not going to work with Windows or most Linux versions. Kind of like how Linux has Wine to convert windows programs that need windows drivers to be able to communicate with the linux versions of the drivers. It is interesting to play with different types of hardware and different operating systems, but I don't think a Mac is a good choice for doing this. And if it is about security or spying, do you know Apple computers are also made in china and have all of the same spying?
You bought it used? If it really was perfectly good without any problems, the guy who sold it to you maybe wouldn't have bought a new computer and sold you the old one. Or maybe just the drivers are not all working correctly between the different types of software.
The good news is like other people said, computer components have improved so much in the last few years that you can find many parts that are just a couple years old, and they are now inexpensive because they are not the absolute newest thing anymore. But they are still more than powerful enough that 99.9% of people will never need anything better or newer. It has never been easier or cheaper to put together a powerful desktop computer.
If you want a laptop, I will only recommend Lenovo and it's the only thing I would ever get. The Lenovo Thinkpad series is the greatest value that you can get for the highest quality at a reasonable price. You can even get an older used one, and they are physically strong and do not break easily so it should be fine. I've had one for several years, and eventually a couple parts stopped working like the right click button and one of the usb ports. I was able to buy replacement keyboard and replacement usb port module, and for like $40, the computer is back to being basically brand new.
