"I used to hold the cultural and national work of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian Franciscans in high regard, but I finally became disappointed and realized that these people are dishonest liars. Their entire life and national and cultural work revolve around deceiving and stupidizing the people with a tendency to then more easily exploit and rob them. If the people are still unenlightened, distrustful and backward, it is only their (Franciscan) merit, because they taught them to be so. They have exploited and are exploiting the church, the pulpit and the confessional only for their own low and selfish purposes. They are the kind of usurers who rob the people, have their own banks and lend money to the poor at usurious interest. They lie to the state, saying that they cannot build their school; and I will try not to help build it, but to close it. My main concern is to separate the people from them. Friar Didak Buntić was a liar and a deceiver, and no friend to the people." - Stjepan Radić, Croatian politician, writer and anti-clerical activist (Nova revija, 1926. broj 1, 89-90)
