Why do Gods wear masks?

So why do Gods like Anubis,Thoth wear an animal/bird mask? what does it represent? why do they have to wear to it?

That was how ancient Egyptians portrayed them. Every mask, every animal symbol represents something. For example, The Thoth is mostly portrayed as having a head of an ibis. Ibis is a bird which was a symbol of wisdom in ancient Egypt. Got it now.
