I have always found that erecting a circle helps to contain the energy that I am raising for the Demons which I invite, to partake of as an offering to them. The circle is not a defense rather, it is a place out of time, between the worlds, or if you like the underworld. It sets the space apart from the everyday space/time continuum establishing a rarefied area for the Demonic to manifest in. In is an place to "invite into" in other words, a container for all the forces and essences that each particular demon enjoys.

In my opinion, the methods used in Enochian magic are little more than inversions of ancient Pagan rites. So they go clockwise where we go anticlockwise. They use the right hand where we use the left. They bind where we invite. They command where we request. With this in mind, I use my own Satanic version of the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram regularly to invoke, and I improved the results of my ritual workings dramatically by doing so. No demon has ever blasted me away for it. Intention is everything. Your intention here is to set the mood, empower your own mind, and invite the demons into a special space prepared for them, am I right? Do you really think Demons would not know the intention of your circle, or so be touchy as to care about nothing more than a association of shape with the workings of their enemies? I think there is nothing more respectful, and worthwhile, than taking the time to create your own rites for working with demons, or even specific rites for specific demons. You should be treating the evocation of a demon as an act of worship. That is, if you want the best results. Do you understand? Pagans used to build altars to their gods and offer sacrifices and hymns for answers to their prayers, and this is what was called "worship". We call it "evocation". If it worries you, just ask the demon himself if it "offends" him.
Those are two cents anyway. Don't take it as gospel. I'm not interested in arguments over dogma.

But is a circle which incorporates the names of Father, Enlil, Isis and Azazel alright? Or one with just the four elements? A circle that is not meant to blaspheme, protect from or anything but is meant to empower the magic working.

The symbol I linked, I made myself. It's in the theban alphabet, it hails the four crown princes of hell. Would this be an acceptable circle? Just for knowledge's sake. It's very basic, but I haven't the time to make a complicated one.
