Synesthesia

On the sound meditation page it says to try to see the sound. How do I do that? I don't think I understand.

Anyone got any good synesthesia experiences and what really confuses me is that alot of synesthesia experiences are with eyes open but yet on the JoS site the exercises are suppose to be done with eyes open..how would that turn into an eyes open experience??

When you do the exercises enough you obviously establish something in your mind that tells you that you no longer need to keep them "closed" I assume you mean that since you put open after open...it's the same for trances. Once you're good at them you can trance with your eyes closed or open. It's all in conditioning.

It's hard to describe... one example of how it works for me, is my roommate bought some incense, and when I walked into the room the color canary yellow popped into my head. My mom bought me a blue housecoat (robe, I guess it depends on where you're from lol) and if I think about it when I'm touching it, it just... tastes blue. I can feel the color in my mouth. I really need to spend more time on this, to figure it out more. It's just something I've taken for granted.

I remember as a child, my parents bought freezies (kind of like popsicles), and there was one flavor in particular, I can't remember which flavor, but I kept telling my parents that it tasted like a completely different color than what it was. I think it was supposed to be cherry, so it was bright red, but it tasted like purple. I guess my parents thought I meant it tasted like grape, but that wasn't what I meant. And it extends to shades of colors too. Something might taste or smell purple but have red undertones.

That's not how it works for me. There are many different types of synesthesia, and different people experience different things. So, colors don't taste/smell like anything to me, other than the color they usually are. How it works for me is that stuff tastes/smells like colors. I think that's the best I can describe it... lol. I hope it makes sense.

Hello!
I've been trying to do synesthesia (or to 'obtain'? hehe I don't know what verb I should use) by listening to music and at some point a few days ago, I smelled an unexpected sweet odour and I was wondering if this was an actual result of the synesthesia.
It was really just for a slight second, just one inhale that I did through my nose and then I.. um.. kind of got excited about it (haha) and I actually lost my concentration so I didn't smell it again.

I can't really explain the smell, it was really sweet and a beautiful sensation but it wasn't any food that I know. Moreover I had closed windows/doors etc, I was alone at home and there is nothing in my room that could give such a smell.
I was listening to beautiful music that gives me a 'fuzzy' romantic feeling if it's of any help.

So, was this synesthesia?

Yes, because I saw my own (similar) experiences through yours and Shannon confirmed that, yes, this is what it is. So, yes, I thank you both. The experiences I've had were natural meaning they didn't come from working on them and I've had them from before I became an SS. I just had no idea what the heck it was and thought it strange.

Different ones I can remember right now are smelling a bon fire in like December and there's no way possible there's a bon fire anywhere near me but it smells as though I'm standing right by one. Um, another one is smelling the scent of a candle I smelled maybe a few days before and the actual candle is miles away. I remember going for a walk and it was like I walked into a wall of that scent. Um, another one is listening to a song and suddenly a peculiar smell is in the room (kinda similar to your experience). I think there have been others but these are the ones I remember.

My confusion was in reading the instructions on the JoS. I just didn't get it and, to a certain degree, I still don't get it fully but, at least, I have a definite name for it...lol

It's really interesting these experiences, and it's even more interesting that you probably had them since birth. Maybe you should try dedicating on these smells or colors (if you've seen any) so that you wouldn't lose this 'ability' (hehe I don't know how I should say it).

May I ask you something?
Were you listening to a specific kind of music at these moments or just the outside world (the car noises etc)?
I wonder if the smells depend according to the genre of music or sound in general...
Ah, I'm really interested in synesthesia and I wish there was a way to make my progress faster.

Try to use yor third eye, keep your eyes closed. Soon after you get the hang of it try with your eyes open. Music helps.
