Planet squares are very difficult to do correctly. If you do the mantra the wrong number of times, it is ruined. You can continue doing a more general planetary working with a certain number of repetitions that does not follow the square, and this will be less effective but will still work. Or you can start the square again from the beginning.
Side note, there are also plenty of counter apps on phone, I personally use one, it's free and every count vibrates on phone, the only thing I wish it had is an option to play a sound when reaching certain number of vibrations as I usually have my eyes closed when vibrating.

I thought about it countless of times and I know it takes almost no time to assemble one but I usually don't have interest in hand crafting so maybe that is why I never was able to make one.

You do not need to make one if you don't want to. There are plenty of "mala beads" and similar available all over the world. Just make sure that you don't get fake plastic Rudraksha if you decide to choose that material. Otherwise, there's plenty of choices available.

I've been using this method ever since and it has worked very well for me. Especially as you can easily count to desired power numbers by knowing the "value" of each pad and applying easy mathematics.
