I hope this isn't just a Xian hangup of mine (please point it out if you think it is), and I'm not saying this to offend or shame anyone. But I would like to discuss what people have said about "sluts" and the like.

It is my opinion that, while Xian oppression is certainly worse, a society that promotes "sexual free-for-all" is one destined for dysfunction. Most humans beings are not philosopher kings, they are people subject at times to jealousy, desire, irrationality, etc. A society in which people routinely take on new partners runs risk of engendering continual conflicts, fights, and disagreements over mates. Frequent and unpredictable transfer of partners also lowers incentives for the sacrifice and delayed gratification necessary to establish stable relationships and family units, which are so beneficial for society.

I am not against polyamory per se, but I have trouble seeing how widespread polyamory would benefit society or a majority of individuals. In my opinion, a society which prioritizes sexual pleasure over stability and civility will promote maxims (principles of action) that inevitably work against civilization. The sexual actions of the individual are "free", but is there true freedom to act against one's Race or Nation? Also, it seems that the most advanced societies tend to be monogamous while less civilized places embrace polyamory.
