Mermaids are spiritual allegories for the female side of the soul. Also there are some water elementals that 'look' like mermaids. Fairies and other spirits of nature were (and still are) seen in Europe and other places around the world. They are on the astral though, not physical. Of course they are of Satan, there are tons of stories about fairies and elementals fucking with xtians. Satan has always been known as the god of nature.
