Before a car engine lasted much more, nowadays a shit.
This is called planned obsolescence and is unfortunately how many things are manufactured nowadays.
You want to do some research and buy vehicles and important things that are of good quality or are rather serviceable. I will give you an example:
You could save up the money and purchase a used, older vehicle with a good frame, decent overall condition of the engine, transmission, rotors, exhaust and not too many miles, and replace some of the parts to get it in very reliable condition, this would negate the expense of a car payment for a newer vehicle thats going to break and require a lot of money for repairs.
This varies and there is still decent modern vehicles, but this is one strategy you can learn and this is what I personally have done.
I am in the process of teaching myself vehicle mechanics, and learning this more in depth but it will take some time.
If you are more aligned with this as a soul path it would be even easier and this strategy would be even better and applicable.
Another thing is if you get good enough, you can buy up new vehicles that were in an accident and repaired for a fraction of the price they would cost new.
This has to be done VERY CAREFULLY though and you must t know what you are doing, which will require some learning and knowledge of vehicles.
