The cost of living in America was already getting out of hand with the inflation caused by the pandemic money printing.
25% of our currency in circulation was printed within a 2 year period (2020-2022) and no one's wages have yet increased.
Since 2020, because of inflation and stagnant wages, almost everyone is barely affording to get by.

Now we have Trump painting broad strokes with an overnight wave of reciprocal tariffs. The increased cost of imports will just be passed to us, the citizens/consumers.
What is the positive of it? What will be done /right now/ to ameliorate our situation?

What was Trump's aim with this? Someone help me understand.

Politically, it’s the wild west at the moment.

Personally, I am very concerned. I have been struggling to keep myself afloat for some years now, and the cost of living is just way out of hand.

I am hoping for the best and trying to remain optimistic, but I am also very on edge about this, as it's a very precarious situation.

The United States has become almost unlivable for many Americans, I have experienced this myself and just see this as the case for so many of my fellow Americans. It's extremely sad.

Yes, as Zevists we can grow, weather and find solutions even in situations which appear hopeless, but it is still very upsetting to see friends, family, close loved ones and fellow Americans bombarded so heavily with financial struggles outside of their control and no real serious solution for this presently except pushing very hard to rise above this.

With our efforts and the Gods, may we forge a better world that is free of alot of these issues. As the Golden Age is within our reach.

Found this on X, hope it helps:

People need to be constantly reminded of this. Everyone seems to always fall for it, every single time.

Trump’s intention appears to put an end to America being ripped off on trade. Now many countries want to sign trade deals with the US.

Next time Trump does something “crazy”, wait a week or two, and even then, think how the other side will retaliate.

Trump also wants factories in America again. It used to be that a factory worker could support a family of five, the wife was at home. Take a look at Detroit, a city that rivaled New York City and is now a wasteland since all the industries were sent overseas. This has been robbed from us before we were even born and talked down about to seem unfavorable for anyone to want to work there. Since nothing is made in America anymore, the whole foundation of the country has been removed in a sense, one of the main reasons things are getting out of hand, as well as the fact we shouldn’t be dependent on another country other than our own. During Covid, China ordered a ship heading for America to return back to China so they could have those supplies they were sending over. Also, what has been mentioned above is that every country was ripping us off, siphoning out prosperity little by little, sooner rather than later we would collapse as a country.

Tarifs are not paid by foreign countries but by the people, the American people. What Trump is doing is a wealth transfert (or theft rather) to his billionaire cronies. The tarifs are in a way financing their tax cuts.

No, what Trump is doing is discourage excessive import of goods.

Importing goods excessively is damaging to a country. Isn't that clear with something recent like the Ukrainian war when the price of fuel and other resources went up because countries were overly reliant on Ukraine and Russia?

The economy of a country must be self-sufficient. That means at least 90% of the resources and goods need to be generated domestically, not abroad.

Strong import tariffs are needed as a step to discourage excessive importation. Then policies to favour domestic industries.

Another thing that needs to be done is banning outsourcing and offshoring to countries where wages are lower. Thisa also increases the amount of jobs inside the country, tackling unemployment and welfare reliance.

When offshoring is banned, any businessman that tries to leave the country needs to be stripped of citizenship, sanctioned, and disallowed moving their business to another country. Why? Because the act of moving because they aren't allowed to damage the economy and the citizens anymore is an act of national treason. A wealthy person is responsible for contributing to the country's economy, not damaging it out of excessive selfishness.

Corrupt businessmen need to be brought in line with honest businessmen. They have a responsibility. Financial power needs to correlate to wisdom again, and to maturity, not teenage behaviour.

...I've had a hunch about this for a while, I but think the three Abrahamic "religions" are going to be the winners of this tariff war somehow. They're may not be "on the board of business," for a lack of a better phrase, but they're involved to an extent.

They're extempt from taxation (the US, I know for sure. I can't the same for other countries), they're protected from oppression more than any other group, and a large number still think politics is the main problem. I can't think of any other signs besides those three.

Watch the movie Tommy Boy with Chris Farley and David Spade. The entire plot of this movie is describing the purpose of tariffs.

Everybody in the town was dependent on the brake pads factory, because every job was somehow related to the factory. Then the company was about to be sold to shift the manufacturing to another country, and thousands of jobs were going to be lost with nothing else to replace them with. This is a real thing that has happened to hundreds or even thousands of small towns all over the country, where a large percentage of jobs in the town were connected to an industry that is not there anymore.
