Krav Maga is a "fighting system" created by a jew named Imi Lichtenfeld and is taught to the Israeli military. Said to be "the most deadly fighting system in the world", it focuses on deadly strikes which are meant to neutralize threats in dangerous and real life scenarios.

The Krav Maga system is not as is it always described. In fact it's a very badly put together and useless system. It is made up of different systems such as boxing, aikido, judo, bjj, etc(these can be different depending on lineage and modern variations). Krav Maga itself is extremely bad however, the separate systems that make it up are not. Boxing itself is a very practical system and one of the best when it comes to using hands. How then can I be so sure Krav Maga is so bad? First let me explain why theoretically, then practically why it's bad and why any SS wanting to do martial arts should never consider it.

Every art has a theory it follows. Every system has a different learning curb. Traditional arts tend to be harder to learn and offer more variety than modern or modified systems. A muay thai practitioner of 1 month or so can easily beat a northern mantis practitioner of 1 month experience. However, change the experience to 3 years, 6 years, 10 years, etc and it becomes very different. Mantis has more moves and more variety. This is just in theory. We all know anything can happen. But combat sports have rules. Rules indeed limit what you can do.

With different learning curbs, every system takes it's own time to become combat ready. Also some systems have more tools than others. Traditional boxing only uses hands. Thai boxing has 8 limbs. That already shows different variations of styles can be extremely different. Along with different stances which are based to execute what the theory dictates. Muay thai wants to destroy with powerful hits so the stance is made so more powerful strikes can be easily accessible. That's also why muay thai fighters aren't combination punches like regular boxers and usually do more kicks. Wing chun keeps pressure and tries to end a fight in 3 seconds or less. In my experience, we train to keep pressure for up to 15 seconds. We also protect the centerline and use attack and defensive strikes at the same time. The stance and hand positions are made because everything in the center is easier to access. Definitely different than boxing, and in no way can be fused.

Grappling arts are no exception. Some grappling arts are done standing up and others on the ground. Bjj is a combat sport. It has limitations. If done outside where Krav Maga is meant to be used, imagine having to grapple on concrete or on the ground. It will be extremely uncomfortable for all parties involved in a fight.

With different systems, learning time, and theories. Krav Maga can already be seen as something that wasn't given much thought. But why make it to begin with? What's the purpose? Money. As I said in previous posts fake martial artists exist. Imi Lichtenfeld just happens to be a more successful one. The money he made from teaching military, having seminars, classes, etc kinda shows why he hyped it up so much. Not only that but someone of my lineage in kung fu actually had contact with the creator of Krav Maga at one point. They were friends. And the creator actually told him he knew it wasn't a good system. He just did it for the money.

Pease stay away from Krav Maga. It's useless. If you have interest in martial arts, research and choose one that will suit you best. Never be afraid to question a system. If it's a good system, it will always have an answer.
