Questions concerning meditation

I've recently started doing power meditations and have a few questions to which I keep finding different answers around the web.
-Is listening to relaxing music (i specifically mean slow progressive trance, ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqfPZXJhHbo ) recommended during meditation? It helps me relax and ignore outside noise (which there is a lot, since i live in a dorm with 3 other people), but im afraid it could also be a bit distracting in deeper trance.
-Is using binaural beats during meditation recommended?
-It was mentioned that drugs and/or alcohol are counterproductive for meditations, but what effect do energy drinks have? On average i consume 2.5 dl to 5 dl a day (thats 80-160 mg of caffeine, around the same as 3 espressos). I have several sleeping issues, so stopping isnt really an option, im just curiouss if this amount of caffeine can have any effect.

You should use what works for you. If relaxing music helps you, then use it. The same goes for the binaural beats. Just remember not to get yourself addicted from them in regards to reaching the trance state etc. We should allways strive to be self-sufficient without the interference from the outside. But by all means, feel free to use them. I myself sometimes meditate with music to help me relax.

As for drugs and alcohol you should stay away from them. They do have detrimental effects on our spiritual advancement. Coffeine on the other hand is not that much of a problem i think. It was said some time before that coffeine helps feel the ''energy buzz'' during the meditation and helps keep you alert. Also it doesn't make you go into a haze, unlike heavy drugs and alcohol. You should however drink coffee with moderation.
