Problems with trance state

Whenever I try to enter a trance state, I'm able to relax myself sufficiently through the breathing techniques described on the JOS website, but when I start to apply the 'mental falling' I experience a sharp pain roughly to the left side of my 6th chakra. I've been trying to get into a trance this way consistently for the past fortnight or so, but I'm not showing any improvement, and I'm hesitant about forcing myself for obvious reasons. Is this normal?

I have experienced a trance before, the atmospheric change was quite pleasurable, but that was a result of an extended corpse pose meditation and took roughly three quarters of an hour, and as much as I love lying around doing nothing, I want to be able to induce a trance state at will. Are there any other techniques I might be able to try?

Thanks.
