I have come up with a natural toothpaste recipe which is useful for people who have gum bleeding, receding gum lines and bad breath due to Stomach Heat or Stomach Fire.

It may not be as useful for gum and tooth disease due to Kidney Deficiency but this is rare in younger people.

Recipe:

- Unrefined Coconut Oil (Base) 300 ml
- Gypsum Powder (Shi Gao) 9 grams
- Mountain Tree Peony Root (Mu Dan Pi) 9 grams- Burnet Bloodwort Rood (Di Yu) 6 grams
The last three ingredients should be ground to a fine powder in a spice grinder or similar and mixed with the Coconut Oil (gently warm it up before mixing).
Mu Dan Pi provides a strong mint-like flavour which does not require the addition of any other substance and Gypsum and Bloodwort are vaguely sweet which negates the need for any sweetener.
Gently brushing with this paste and/or leaving it on the gums for a few minutes each day helps to stop bleeding, generate flesh and protect the gums from further damage.
Be careful not to brush too hard though as the small pieces of Bloodwort may act as abrasive agents and cause microtraumas which then subsequently bleed.

Be sure to rinse your mouth thoroughly after use as the small pieces of these herbs may become sites for bacterial growth if left in the mouth too long.

Acquiring these ingredients may be harder for some than others depending on where you live, but if you search your area online using the Chinese Names (Shi Gao, Mu Dan Pi and Di Yu) which a qualifier like "TCM Herbs Buy" then you may get some good results.

Granulated herbs may work to some degree however these are not powdered herbs, they are powders made from decoctions of those herbs which do not have the same properties as the raw herb powders when used externally in this way - they do however have the same INTERNAL properties ie taken orally and swallowed.

@ivy. Ref toothpaste
Yaye!
Does it need any special case to preserve? How long will it remain fresh to use?
Are there precautions? Age limits? Other health concerns to limit use of this toothpaste?

@ivy. Ref natural laundry soap
You made reference once to a natural laundry soap which you have been using for many years. [I think it was you.]
Would you mind sharing the recipe?
Please and thank you!

I did not reference laundry soap. I believe this was someone else.

With regard to the recipe, there is no limit on the length of its preservation - I store it in the original jar which the oil came in and keep it until the best before or use by of the original product.

Just note you may wish to use two toothbrushes, one for the toothpaste and a soft brush to brush with after applying it.

Alternatively, you can apply it with your fingers and then brush as it can be quite hard at room temperature during colder months.

Refrigeration is unnecessary.

If you are swallowing the paste, you should not use it in the case of digestive insufficiency manifesting with loose stools and poor appetite or with any ailment that produces an aversion to cold or chills.

If it is purely used on the teeth, then these precautions are less severe.
