Methods of Inducing Trance

One of the most reported difficulties of inducing a Trance is the required mental "Falling Effect". Because of this reason below I will attempt to aid in its application through various alternative suggestions to inducing a Trance:

It is important when inducing a Trance state that you are free from distraction, particularly if you are new to meditation. Noise can become incredibly amplified and even a dripping tap in the distance can become almost deafening when entering Trance.

It is important that you are sitting comfortably. You can lay down, although the deep levels of relaxation may induce sleep, that said it is very much a case here of individual preference.

Timed and controlled Breathing is incredibly important. This should be regulated as in the following example:

Breath in for the count of Six. Hold for the count of Six. Exhale for the count of Six.

The above is an example and some will find Six seconds too long, whereas experienced practitioners will find Six seconds too short. Adjust to comfort and personal preference. The importance here is maintaining consistency.

Moving in the Dark
This is a very simple Method so I shall include this one first.

Many of us will have played the game "Murder in the Dark" as children, even some of us as adults. Blindly feeling our way around in the Darkness is disorientating. Balance and Perception based on normal Senses tend to go out of the window and We find ourselves bumping into things or loosing sense of Our exact location. This can be recreated easily in the Physical by simply switching off the lights and Navigating from one room to the next in total Darkness. Try it. Familiarize Yourself with that sensation.
Now, once you "know" that feeling it can be employed during Trance. It is Dark, total Darkness. Now simply move forward in the Dark. Loose Balance. Fall. Falling effect.

The Blackboard
Adapted from a Self-Hypnosis Technique

Imagine a Blackboard. This is very simple as with your eyes closed in front of you is a Blackboard.
Now, draw the letter A on the blackboard. Now draw a circle around the letter A. Now erase the circle. Now erase the letter A.
Continue the above with B, C, D, E etc using the exact same method.
What you are doing here is applying you concentration and focus to a point of Mental Emptiness – Boredom even. This Emptiness leads to a Mental Falling effect.

The Platform
Descending The Abyss

Imagine you are standing/siting/laying on a platform. This platform is an Elevator into the Abyss.
All around you is complete and total Darkness. The Abyss is Far Below.
Now, in conjunction with your Breathing, as outlined above, the Platform will move down a Level with each Exhale.
With each Exhale you are going Deeper and Deeper into the Abyss.
A simple and effective method that requires little or no additional visualization other than the induction of the Falling Effect itself.

Another important factor for Inducing Trance is Physical preparation, which is often overlooked.
Before attempting Trance make sure to have a good stretch. Get all of the kinks out. A really good stretch. Don't worry about looking silly, no one is watching you, so really go for it.

Now, in addition to the above, whilst Sitting/Laying, systematically tense and relax every part of your body. Start from your Toes and work your way up until you are closing your eyes real tight, and then Relaxing. Relaxation is VERY IMPORTANT, especially for those new to Trance. Then begin your Breathing, followed by whichever Method suits you best.
