No, this is not necessarily true. There are kundalini yoga kriyas where it focuses on other parts than the spine.

The difference is that hatha yoga is just separate asanas and breathing exercises and is about general health where kundalini yoga combines these and many other things like movement, meditation, bandhas and mantras in a series of exercises which all synergize for a specific purpose. For example there's a kundalini yoga kriya called pineal gland kriya to awaken the pineal gland, there's another one to balance the glandular system, another one for the solar plexus (which consists mostly of leg exercises) e.t.c. That's why kundalini yoga is said to be like 16 times more powerful than hatha yoga.

Asides from the kriyas there are also kundalini yoga meditations which are more effective than traditional meditations because again they combine many things, many of them include vibrating mantras, breathing exercises, mudras, bandhas and/or hand movement.

Again I agree with HP Mageson , if You can try something , try it first and then post Your experiance . The difference is that Kundalini Stimulates the Serpent while hatha opens joints and helps the energy to flow freely inside You.

Well said diznit26, I'm all for Kundalini Yoga and have recently discovered Yin Yoga, which goes well with my Satanic practice. Yin Yoga is about holding a pose for a very long peroid of time and allow specific energies to open up and travel through the meridians. Yin yoga also stimulates both the chakras aswell as the Kundalini, but it has no resemblance to Kundalini Yoga exercise as Yin Yoga is very quiet and 'static'.
