Kinetic energy

Is it possible to see kinetic energy? If so i think and have been able to for years now, i asked my friends if they saw what i was talking about and they called me crazy... Any ways, there was this game that me and a bunch of friends used to play where the goal was to see who could kick a soccer ball the highest( i always lost) and when the ball came down fast enough i saw a gray force around it, like the soccer ball was a grey fireball coming to collide into the planet. Anyone have any ideas as to what im seeing?
