There is also a Kabbalistic practice of carrying around the magickal square in your pocket to ward off energies of malicious planets. But as HP Maxine stated, it does nothing in and of itself. You have to use it properly by following the number and than chanting the mantra the specific number of times for that day.
Whether it be a magical (Kabbalistic) square or a red string, these are only tools to be used just like ritual tools. It's the energy you put inside them and program inside them that makes them powerful. The object itself has no power.
For instance, Anton Lavey had a black candle that was on his altar. This candle was specifically used for curses and destruction rituals. The energy emitting from this candle was so powerful that when somebody touched it, they died. The candle didn't have power in and of itself. The candle simply emitted off very powerful destructive energy because it was used for destruction rituals.
So it's not the object, it's the energy that's programmed into the object that makes it do something. |

There is a Kabbalistic practice of wearing a red string on the left hand to ward off the evil eye & its negative effects (I learned this from Madonna because I'm a HUGE Madonna fan).
Does this have Pagan roots? Can I apply this practice, too? What else can it do?
Please shed some light on the topic as well.
Thanks!
