As the title suggests if I cannot do a sun square during the hour of the sun during daytime is it better to just make sure I do the square when its daytime or is it better to wait for the hour of the sun even if it means performing the square at night?

Ideally, it should be done during the Hour of the Sun in the daytime. Sometimes it happens that the Hour of the Sun falls during the day, so you can take advantage of such a situation.

It's best to begin the solar square when the Sun is high in the sky, preferably in daylight and as close to noon as possible.

Usually, the closest time the Sun is to noon is in the early afternoon, whether the Sun is in Aries or Leo.
