Something I wanted to mention is that not all novels, video games, anime, etc are escapism. In fact, some amazing things with truth heavily incorporated can come as a result such as berzerk. Or, if you want an example with even heavier levels of truth look at Saint Seiya.
The point is, artforms, while, often being used as escapism, are not inherently bad. Alcohol, drug use, smoking, porn use, are forms of escapism which I believe are inherently bad, but, the artforms are not.
Just wanted to make this post clarifying my positon as I know the original content of my post may be a bit confusing.
