Hello everyone!

I live near Toronto, Canada and every May I go to the Anime North convention at the Toronto congress center near the airport and it's a really big event for me. If any one remembers, I have posted around that time that I was going to go in a demon costume from a tarot card from my favourite show, in the hopes of getting the pleasure of meeting a fellow satanic cosplayer like my self! The attempt failed but I still had a fun time.

After the convention a fellow JOS member saw my pictures from the convention and was amazed at the craftsmanship of my costume, stating that he always wanted to make a mask of the sort for Beltane celebrations but didn't have the slightest clue on how to go about it. After I showed him how I made it he insisted that the JOS community would love this idea and that I needed to post it!

The reason why it took so long for me to post it is because I didn't what people to think that this costume is of Satan, looking more like the xian depiction of Satan. IT ISN'T!!! I know what my dear father Enki looks like and this has nothing to do with the xianic depiction of him! This is the "IL DIABOLO" tarot card from the Vision of Escaflowne tarot deck and it has been on my to-do-list for a while.

Anyway, after playing with the idea whether to post-it or not I have decided to post-it!
This would be a fun project for the ones who are artistically inclined and for the all-around craft do'ers . For Beltane, Halloween, around the alter or for the sake of having a bull mask. You can also take the idea and make a completely different mask all together.

The idea came to me when another Escaflowne fan friend of mine and I were talking about what costumes there were in Escaflowne that no one dose. She stated that she liked the dress in the tarot deck "IL Monde" (the world) so I searched the deck and stated that I liked the "IL DIAVOLO" (the devil) card. We agreed to make the costumes some time in the future but she never went on with the plan … however, I was hooked on the idea.

The costume its self was suppose to have been done in Anime North 2009 but my mother had a vary bad case of the flu and the week before Anime North she gave it to me which sent me to bed for 3 days preventing me to finish the costume and almost cancelling Anime North for me.
While wearing the costume, the second most asked question was "how did you make the mask!?" (The number one most asked question was "aren't you hot in that?"… Yes)

The mask its self is made of flower foam! No, its not the one that collapses on contact but it is close, it was a different version of it that was green but vary much harder then the typical one that we are so use to. I found it in Michael's craft store.
I glued two rectangles together to form a square and then I carved it (I used wood glue for all my gluing need for this mask)

For the horns I used a paper towel tube but it was not thick enough so I found a bigger paper towel tube in my doctor's office, the rolls that have the paper that they put on the medical beds! The snout was not long enough so I had to glue pieces of carved material to elongate it . Then I carefully carved the cavity that my head would fit in.

After I was done carving I papier-mâché it with wood glue (this is flower foam and even thou its was significantly harder then the type used for live flowers I was not taking the risk of it collapsing or have pieces braking off on me ) it dried solid as wood! Then I painted it and used 4 wigs to make the mane.
Wood glue was used to glue the wigs on as well…them wigs are never coming off @_@

The costume is actually really close except for 2 alterations. One is obvious, the centaur aspect was scratched off, I did do the horse legs but I really didn't have the resources to pull off a centaur. The second is one that is less obvious but it means a lot to me, the Japanese have a bad habit of using the Jewish star as a replacement for the satanic one and it drives me nuts. I don't care if the kikes (like everything else) stole it and it's only been considered "the jewish star" for 100 years or so, I was not going to have it. So, as you can see in the pictures, I put the satanic symbol on it. Now that I think about it I could have replaced it with a lot of symbols.

note: I wear glasses and there is more then enough room for them in this mask.

Now there is another way of making a mask:
You use chicken wire to mould what the mask will look like and then you paper mache it. From there you can remove the chicken wire or leave it. I would suggest using un-diluted wood glue and news paper. Some people will say you don't need such strong glue and you can get way with craft glue but it will leave it felling like rubber and will eventually deteriorate. Wood glue will leave you with something solid that will last for years, you can even sandpaper it to give you smother finish.

I was thinking of taking it to FanExpo, another convention going on this month but its extremely bulky so I'll just be going in a black/white/olive green short kimono and goth boots.

If any one has any problem with my costume or take it as an insult to "demons", I would just like to re-state that this costume was made purely for cosplaying and was never meant for satanic purposes until the fellow JOS member suggested it to me.
If any one would like for me to describe how I made the rest of the costume then please reply so and I will post it.

HAIL SATAN!!!

You made that yourself, that's very good. Well I see your
mom helped. My mom helped me to and taught me how to
sew and designed costumes.
I enjoy making costumes myself. I made a costume of me being
Kagome from the Inuyasha series. Made the bow and arrows and
all too. Am a fan of anime, wish I could go to a anime expo.

My mom!?! Your poor nob lol...
My mom didn't want anything to do with that mask ... she is no xian but she's superstitious and a bull skull was not her kind'a costume, all though she helped with the cutting of fabric and did pose for me a couple times.
The reason why I posted it was not cause of my anime background but because some people would like how to make this for there own purposes, like the fellow JOS member that wanted it for Beltane.
I hope every one enjoys this as much as I did making it.

HAIL SATAN!
