Keep moving the goal posts. Keep changing the story. When each fake point is proven wrong by actual reality, keep switching to a different point and a different fake story. Better than accepting truth and reality.
This is often the pattern of people who are not very confident in themselves. Somebody who has true confidence is easily able to admit when he or she is wrong about something, because they are usually right most of the time so being wrong one time is not a big deal. The record of success and accuracy is still very high, so it is not a big deal being wrong one time. People who have low self confidence usually do not ever admit when they are wrong because they are afraid of their record or reputation dropping even lower.
