howdy - intro

Greetings,

New to the group and to the path as well. Spent many years deprogramming myself from Catholic upbringing (I was even a monk for a couple of years after college) and also been exploring many different paths along the way. I had always held to my own unique views and spiritual experiences that didn't resonate with anything i had come in contact with. The more I read about the real Satanism, I am struck by the freedom it affords in many respects. I've always been big on self-determination and free choice. Most faiths assert that the believer is somehow initially flawed in some way which always struck me as bogus. I choose to consider myself a perfect creation that is always learning and growing. I am not initiated or anything like that yet - always been a bit of a lone wolf in some ways, but want to learn more about it all.

Thanks for the welcomes. I've been reading through quite a lot of the site and material from supporting links and have found it all very informative. It has been really nice to get a fuller sense of it all outside of the prejudice of false religions. I guess one question off the bat for me would be - Why is 666 still used as a number for Satan if that came from within the xian writings of john while in exile? Maybe I haven't come across that answer in the readings yet, but it just seems counter-intuitive to use a hostile religions' reference. Is there an origin to this number that predates the NT such as with the town in India named Satana?
