Deep, slow breathing

I read in a Kundalini Yoga book, that the deep, slow breathing (4 breaths per minute) makes the pineal gland to secrete, and deep meditation becomes automatic.

Has anyone tried this? Is this information accurate? Or is it another xian-soaked thing in yoga? (I guess not).

I'm not sure if the pineal gland secretes when you do deep breathing, but everything else is completely true. You can even notice your breath when you meditate, it becomes slower and slower and when you fall in a deep trance and your thoughts stop completely it feels as if you aren't breathing at all. There's a connection between your breathing and your mind, that's the reason we do breathing exercises.

The Pineal Gland can secrete the "Dripping Ambrosia" if doing chakra breathing technique. The problem is that it takes longer and it takes many many breathes to make it secrete.

The Pineal however, cannot secrete just like that. It takes a while for it to be activated. So i guess that information is right if you regularly work on your Pineal Gland.

The title of the book is Kundalini Yoga by Shakta Kaur Khalsa.

It says:
"If you learn to breathe deep and slow, you'll obtain endurance and patience. If you decrease the number of breaths to 8 per minute, the pituitary gland (which is at the third eye, the seat of intuition) starts a complete secreting. And if the number of breaths are 4 per minute, the pineal gland (in the center of the skull) starts to operate, and deep meditation becomes automatic."

I mixed it up a bit in my first comment.

Well, I don't find it troublesome to do this breathing. I'll try the hissing breath, thank you for the tip.
