When you begin the path of the Gods, meditation, bringing your mind and soul in order, there can be a lot of chaos involved in this process. Essentially as we have not looked upon our souls, the operations of our minds and we are merely slaves of consequences of things we have no idea about, this changes drastically when one gets in the path.
We are told life is "simple". That's half of the truth, it's not that simple. It gets simple only when one learns to control the mind. Then it can become very easy. Before this life can be very hard. It's also never too late to fix the mind, but most people don't make a start at any turn of their lives.
The less mental control, the more confused the life and the less prospects one has in both enjoyment and success in life. Less control of the mind, more sadness, more pain, more misery, more mistakes. But since most people don't know about the Gods and their practices, they also in most cases have literally no choice. The Temple of Zeus wants to return this choice to the people.
How one can perceive this situation is like having a closed room. Similar written topics, I have done before on this.
But imagine that you have a room and this is your subconscious mind and your soul. You never opened that room; but all experiences, negative stimuli, false beliefs, negative conceptions, all the way through your childhood, are thrown in there. Stored permanently in a disorganized manner, up until the point you open up the gate. And what will you see? What you expect, a lot of chaos and disorganization.
Most people out there are living in a very mentally chaotic mind. Their mind is completely out of control; they cannot control themselves, they cannot reason why they do the things they do, and they are very ignorant on top of it to accept this. Commonly, they couple this in with endless non-introspection and a strong dose of total carelessness. Then they go about their lives, which may or may not fail, given they have no idea what happens in their mind, their soul or their astrology.
In this state, they are disconnected from the Eternal Way of the Cosmic order and therefore, suffering ensues.
If they are "lucky" to have certain good inputs in their mind, their lives can go "well". If unlucky [which is most people] their lives won't go well at all. Some people have good inputs in some areas, such as work or family, and in others, very troublesome situations which can be very deep. There are many areas in life and life can come up at them, but they are not "prepared" for many things, nor their minds or souls are.
The most important gift in this path is among many, the ability to find out what is going on, organize the mind and enjoy life in the end with a proper mind. The meditations provide this, insight from the Gods provides this, and one grows wisdom over time that provides this.
This is probably the largest gift of the Gods. A well oriented mind that understands who one is, what their powers or limits might be and is focused on development, is a mind that will mostly be serene and peaceful.
Achieving this is the path to the Eternal Way. When this is achieved, then suffering progressively starts vanishing from life [commonly called success].
To reach the ultimate level of a noble and sound mind, also equates with existential euphoria, away from chaos. One is no longer tormented by false fears, false projections, false dreams (yes, there is also such a thing), or false estimates. The mind is serene and one reaches clarity. The spiritual evolutionary process is supposed to lead someone to this clarity.

It's important to practice Void and the Introspective Meditation daily (and in my experience, esteemed High Priestess Lydia's Self Love Meditation and Healing Emotional Body and the various purification/karma removal workings), because it is only through this that we can begin to heal and understand significant messages and have truly meaningful thoughts
