It's best to learn how to go into a stable trance first before trying to astral project.
To learn how to do that, try it sitting up. Don't do it laying down if it causes you to go to sleep. If it happens often, it will program you to fall asleep every time - counter productive.
Try using a light alpha setting or program. Try around 10 cycles per second to start.
Later you can play with "body asleep mind alert" patterns (for example, a theta beat and a higher alpha beat) at the same time.
The other thing is that if you wake up at the end of the session, you are probably just going into a very deep trance. If you do not wake up at the end of the session, and don't wake up for hours or you sleep all night afterwards, you are going to sleep.
Another great option is this. Use binaural beats at say around 10 cycles per second. Do a short program, around 15 min. After you feel what an altered state feels like, try meditating with the Satanic Rosary or Mala beads. As you begin, remember what the trance state felt like and you will zoom right there with a bit of practice.
