I didn't have medical insurance for about 9 years, so for that time I didn't see a dentist. When I finally did go last year, I still had no cavities and everything was in great shape. I was sitting there after the cleaning with this raspberry flavored stuff in trays in my mouth, and the assistant mentioned at the end that it was fluoride. Naturally I was pissed off as I had read a website about how fluoride is BAD for our health and our teeth, but I didn't think much of it since I didn't swallow any and it was only on for a minute or two.
6 months later, I went for another checkup. And guess what? I had my very first cavity. They said it was still forming so they wouldn't fill it until my next checkup. Which I will not be going to. While it is important to go to the dentist as they do a good job of cleaning and noticing diseases, but I'm 28 and my teeth and gums are perfect (other than that cavity) even despite the fact that I had braces for over 2 years. So I think I'll just maintain my usual at-home routine (brushing 2-3 times a day and flossing daily), visit a dentist once every couple of years for check-ups, and start healing my tooth myself. It has only mildly hurt a few times, no big deal for me. I'm not letting them drill it and fill it with who knows what that stuff is made of.
So to everyone, read this website, and decline the fluoride treatments at the dentist. Don't let them tell you that they know what's best for you, do the research yourself.
