Oh also the bedsheet thing, it was in one of Rachel Maksy's videos. She wants to do like one dress or one project in a week and it ends up being glued together and stuff. Its actually quite entertaining haha.

YES!! I recently started watching her channel not long after making the OP. At the time, I figured may as well branch out and find more sewing folk to learn from, and then stumbled on her channel.

I’ve started to appreciate the vintage style more and have been picking up a few extra tips for myself thanks to her videos. I’ve been in a creative spirit for a number of days now just designing clothes for future projects for myself and jrvan (sewing machine is on the way!). Can’t say I didn’t suddenly develop an obsession for poofy-floofy sleeves because of Maksy :lol:

You've said nothing wrong here. Your own opinion is not wrong, in that we all have motivations and reasons for saying these things. Its that when our views change and our eyes are opened that we change what we say.

Please do not stray from or be driven away from forums because of feeling hurt. Thuis is a very good resource for you and can help you grow. Please know the people you don't vibe well with can be put on an ignore list so that you will not longer see their posts. Don't allow yourself to be driven away.

I didn't take this short break to whine about this situation, and I never intended to leave Satan. I would never leave him. I was doing more RTR, meditating, yoga etc. so it come for the better for me. This what happened here was a good lesson for me.

It sometimes seems to me like he potentially does more harm than good in certain places, but I can't erase his accomplishments and I don't want to take away from that. I don't think he is a bad person either. This comment which he mades towards me, it could be my fault too. Maybe I provoked him, or he helt attacked by my words, but it wasn't my intention. It's looks like he is making fun of my feelings, but I don't believe he did that without proper reason. What I intented to say is he should realize, that sometimes his words about women can be misinterpreted and make other women feel worse. I won't say he is mysoginist, I don't know this and I won't say things, which I am not sure, but sometimes I get the feelings that he is hostile towards them and it's hard to take it otherwise. I want to look at this from another perspective and I don't have ill intention towards him too, but his actions can push people away from him and he can therefore be left alone. Exactly, I understand you! The joy on other people face, when you making something nice to them, priceless. For example, I like to bake for my brother and sister-in-law sometimes. They really enjoying this, so me as well. Recently, I sewed his favorite cartoon character for him for Christmas. His face was everything. But I like to doing this small things for him. He helped me a lot and is always protective towards me, the best brother I could imagine to have.

Haha yeah, I remember my first bunny that I sew. Now I think he looks hillarious and insane, but back then I was really proud of this. This motivated me to practice more and more. That's why I want to start with sewing clothes.

Cheesecake, shortbread cookies, muffins, currant tart etc. I don't know how it's named in English, but recently I made "Fiona" cake. This is a cake with a biscuit, two layers and raspberry jelly. A lot of work, but it was worth it.

Only when she noticed that I was starting to learn, she made small corrections to me. She even wants to teach me to embroider now. Now I am doing well and smoothly, but when I remember my beginnings, I feel like laughing. I wish I had been taught this before. And you? I don't remember if you mentioned it. Did you learn from a child or did you learn by yourself like me?

Hey think nothing of it. You're a human being, and you didn't deserve that crap. You're not a coward at all in my eyes. You know there's people who went through similar things like you did, and they didn't find the tremendous inner strength to keep going like you did, and even discover the Truth of the world and Father Satan. A lot of people get consumed by the pain, and it's too much for them, understandably. I would never want my body to be taken from me, and I don't know how I would be coping personally. I probably wouldn't be able to rest peacefully on the inside until I got my revenge on whoever did it to me, and took back my feeling of power and control that they stole from me. That's just me though.

I watched this video after doing a bit of sewing earlier (just repairing some old clothes, unfortunately there are delays in the delivery of the fabric I wanted). I noticed while I was doing it just how relaxing it is; there is something therapeutic about it. She mentioned that in the video as well. It's just so intuitive, yet requires focus, which means it helps it take my mind off things. It's really nice.

If just repairing something is this much fun, then I look forward to having fabric to work with so I can make something from scratch. I'm glad I thought of giving sewing a try; I didn't realise there was so much more to it than just making clothes.

That’s something I love about sewing. The whole world around me just falls away, and all that’s left is just me and the thread of my needle. I’m not sure if it’s the same with a machine but when I’m hand sewing I find it’s a great time to state some daily affirmations, because I’m already in a meditative state. (I forget if I mentioned that already or not haha).

Yeah I was just a kid. A lot of women in my family are seamstresses in their own time. I started with just fabric glue and spare material before my mother and my grandnan taught me to use an actual needle and thread :lol:

Haha, you know what...you are not wrong. There actually is a cake version of Shrek! And it looks like this:

They are similar to each other, but have a few differences. Shrek has a gooseberry or kiwi flavor (depending on what you choose) and Fiona has a raspberry flavor.

So you started, when you were little. No wonder you have so much knowledge in this field. I wish my mother have teached me too, but maybe I didn't show too much interest in it before.

Never too late to learn. I had a lot of fun when I made my octopus plush, the only part I had trouble with was attaching the feet things but eventually I figured it out haha.

Oh nice! Embroidered flowers are so pretty. I’m a total novice with embroidery currently but if I could sit down and make floral patterns with it I totally would.

Maybe it's off-topic, which I am sorry, but nobody makes me feel worse as a woman in this forum than him, I swear. I try to avoid him here, since he makes me feel bad and there is a lot of helpful information here too, but it is hard to do. I feel like he is really questioning my worth and my worth is something I have had a problem with for a very long time. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but his comments can be discouraged to be here. (It doesn't mean, that I will leave this forum just because he annoys me, but I am thinking about new womens wanting to join here.)


As for the post, excellent job. I have never tried to sew clothes (well, except for my old porcelain doll), only mascots for friends, my little sister and brother, but it would be nice to try something new. I don't have sewing machine, always using hand sewing. Maybe I should afford it, cause it would be faster this way. My sister wants to learn sewing too, so thanks for the tips.

Not everyone here is like him so don't let it get under your skin. Women have one very special power that men don't possess and will never be able to possess, and it's the ability to carry another life within themselves, a whole other soul, and birth it into this world. But that applies to gender specific. As a human, you choose what your value is as a person, and how you regard yourself. You decide your worth. Don't let anyone tell you or make you feel lesser just because of someone else's poor views and opinions.

They are similar to each other, but have a few differences. Shrek has a gooseberry or kiwi flavor (depending on what you choose) and Fiona has a raspberry flavor.

Me too. Actually, this is the first time I embroider, but like I said before, you inspired me to try different things. And yeah it's a bit time consuming, but it looks pretty good. Maybe it's not perfect, but for the first time I'm quite happy with the effect. I have to finish the last flower and it will be done. When I get embroidered practice and my works will look better, I'm going to make one to Father Satan. I saw people drawing before, and as I draw rather average, I thought that I could give something in a different form.

Also I got a machine sewing from my aunt. My grandfather suddenly had the idea that he wanted to buy me a machine, then my aunt found out about it and she gave me one. So when I finish my embroidery practice, I will finally start learning how to use the machine.

No matter. Food from others countries has always intrigued me. Learning about the different flavours and techniques, common household traditions at holidays. It makes me happy, well, good food in general makes me happy :lol:

Oh haha funny how things happen. I know I hand sewed it together and had to fiddle with the feet a bit... I think I ran a thread through all the feet first to sorta string them together and then attempted to attach it to the body. I'm not sure if that's how you were supposed to do it but eventually it worked out and sat properly, but might need to try a couple ways and see what works best.

That was the only tutorial for a toy plush I used, the rest were just going off the top of my head, but I'll keep an eye out for more tutorials that look like they will work. Maybe I'll inspire myself to get back into plush making again haha.

If you wanted to go down that particular rabbit hole you could go as far to say that necklaces, chokers, bracelets, anklets, rings, etc, are all "symbols of slavery" for the fact that these items are made usually of chain, and worn on the common areas of the throat and wrists. But logic and simple peeks into history would tell you that these are no such symbols but instead ones of power and wealth. Adorning the body in riches to display status, hierarchy, beauty, and ceremony (among other things).

The cuffs and collars, ties and such today mean little more than design choice of the clothing to achieve a particular silhouette and appearance of the person wearing said clothing items. As desires and tastes in fashion change so does the appearance of clothing and the purpose it provides the wearer. A button down shirt with a suit and tie, well pressed cuffs and collars have been symbols of authority and power of the wearer for a long time after the use of robes and cloaks fell out of favor. There's a reason wealthy politicians and government rulers wear them. One look at a man or woman in a suit and you know intuitively based on their appearance what their status and type of job in society is, and these kinds of people are rarely if ever on the low rung on the ladder.

A quick search into the evolution of collars and decorative cloth worn around the neck or a look at cuffs will show you that those of even the highest place in society often times had very elaborate pieces, especially around the neck/throat.

These pieces on the clothes also serve specific purposes in most cases not just as a fashion statement or accessory. The cuffs on shirts and sometimes coats allows for the shirt to be fastened at the wrist, making it easier to keep the fabric of the sleeves out of the way of the hands, usually only required on long sleeves. Decorative edging on the cuffs and collars were often added and could pose as a symbol of status based on how elaborate they were. Collars have served the purpose of not just causing a shirt to be more flattering visually for the wearer but also can act as sun protection for the softer skin of the neck and throat, as well as keep the skin contact to outer garments to a minimum. The most common places for shirts to go nasty and yellow are around the neck line, arm pits, and wrists, and so wearing clothing that covers these areas prevents the same from happening to more expensive outer wear like a coat for example, that are also harder to wash.

I'd rather not turn this into an essay so to cut this short, making statements like that are more or less redundant really since whether you were rich or poor, slave or not, your clothing (depending on the period and fashion taste) all had pieces like collars, cuffs, and decorative cloths for the neck within their clothing choices.

Clothing is not as impractical as you think. Most of those delicate artpieces that you speak about are derived from normal day working clothes. They are not that much different.

If you do not understand that you ought not to wear your normal work clothes to a ball then I am not sure what will make the coin drop. Of course you wear pretty things as a show-off. And there is N O T H I N G wrong with that.

Perhaps go and watch some of Abby Cox' videos. Or some of the other dress historians on youtube. Then come back and talk here.

I don't think you'd think about the time it takes to sew a proper garment either... You simply don't spend elaborate amounts of time on sewing your work clothes only to stain or dirty them.

Like tabby mentioned, you wear a shirt underneath your clothes. Your "UNDERGARMENTS". Those are washed frequently and worn so that you don't dirty your normal clothes/outer wear as much. Pretty elaborate clothes are NOT daily wear. As thus, they are NOT "maintenance heavy" as you call it.

Now I chuckle when I see someone with very ornate and pretty earrings, as there's such a gap between how fashionable I think it looks and my mom's words on the topic.

I actually got interested in earrings since I saw a set that looked really nice, with gemstones. But it was the type that requires piercings, and rather expensive at over a hundred euros. I looked around for cheaper ones with clamps, but the designs weren't quite as nice.

But now that I think about it, perhaps I could try making some myself, similar to the ones I saw back then that I liked, but with clamps instead? I was always good at crafting things, so perhaps I should just give it a try.

Yes. Im not sure where to buy the holder for those clamped ones. There are those that have a meganism that sort of clamp or snap closed. But my grandmother has a pair that you have to screw tight.
The latter one might be less painful to wear because you can adjust the squeezing on your earlobe.

Clothing is both a practical and self-expressive item that everyone wears. You can gather a huge file of information about a person from clothing alone, some things most don't care to look at. You want success? Don't dress like a hobo or a druggy, keep your appearance clean, and your chances sky-rocket compared to those who don't.

We wear what we wear because we want or need to for whatever reasons, we're lucky to not be forced into certain styles unlike previous ages. People might look at you funny for wearing something outside the norm, but they won't hang you for it. Depending on how one wants to express themselves some will opt for impractically more so because of apparent beauty. I don't see the issue there, people can choose what they want. Lacking knowledge doesn't help with making smart choices though. What most don't understand is that you can have beautiful clothing without compromising on practicality if people just knew what they were doing and didn't get hooked into the fast fashion shit.

The clothing that is most maintenance heavy is actually the clothes you wear against your skin, not the ones that are the most expensive looking or lavish. Sounds counter-intuitive huh? Because undergarments are constantly exposed to harsh washing, and wear and tear from rubbing against the skin and outer clothes. That is why undergarments were once made with waxed linen thread for the seams, and linen (sometimes cotton) fabric, because it needed to be strong enough to withstand the constant wear. The outer clothes however, you dry clean and keep safe in your closet until needed. How many people regularly wash their coats or most expensive dresses? How often are they worn and for what occasions? These clothes may appear to be maintenance heavy but they're actually the opposite. The most repairs and maintenance you'll ever do is for clothing your wear against the skin and wash frequently.

Back in the day, everything was maintenance heavy especially for the working class, because everything was done by hand and if your clothes started falling apart there wasn't a Target down the road to just grab a new shirt. You made your own clothes, your maintained them and washed them, and turned anything too worn down into something useful like rags or other garments. Nothing was wasted. Today you just wash it and if it falls apart or gets a rip, you buy a new one and cycle repeats.

Pockets have come and gone over the ages. The first "pockets" were tie-on's and satchels before they were sewn into the clothes to reduce theft. Now you see a reduction in pockets and increase in bags, go figure with what the average person carries with them these days and the price tag for merchants. Pockets are needed for anyone on the go and working, because we have personal items that we carry with us constantly. Some people choose clothing without pockets and replace it with a nice bag. What do you need pockets for at a dinner party when you're wearing an expensive pretty dress? You don't need to carry anything with you. Some styles of clothing make it difficult to incorporate pockets while keeping the clothing comfortable.

If you want to really look at impractical clothing look at jeans. No good for cold weather, horrible for the summer. Makes your butt and legs look great at the expense of pinching your nether regions and unable to sit comfortably. If they get wet, it takes forever to dry them.

The car example makes no sense. Each type of car has its pros and cons, different functions for different uses. A truck is great for anyone in the trade but inefficient for running errands around town. You don't use a tool for the wrong job just like you don't wear an expensive dress when working the fields.

Something like that, yeah. She got a lot of backlash once its history was uncovered but I suspect those who voiced those complaints were few and far compared to the ones that wanted to see the project finished judging by most of the comments. Which makes the whole thing more crazy. Funny that no one made a peep about the dress until they found out its “history” then suddenly it was some crime to recreate that beautiful clothing as its original form and glory.

The dress is decorated with peacock feathers, designed after a throne that was once part of the place they held the ball (in India). She gave credit back to the original embroiderers of the dress where before it wasn't even known. To me it was like she was giving a piece of culture back to the people who it was taken from by recreating the dress in a way that honored not the person who wore it and what happened, but the craftsman who made it and the beauty they put into that dress. Honoring the craft of gentiles. So it's interesting that she suddenly drops the project after poking into the recorded history right before she’s about to take the next step of getting the thing ready for the embroidery work. The peacock is a symbol of Father after all. Only a theory so take it with some salt but she could've been affected by curses for all we know, given the kind of message it could send to her followers if she finished the project.

I haven’t continued to watch her stuff even for the purpose of learning new techniques and info for sewing since she decided to stop the project so I don't know what updates she's done either. People dumping their dreams like that is infuriating.

I’ll write as much as I can here without making this too long. It’s my belief that “we are what we wear”, and no body wants to walk around with ill fitting clothes that make them feel and look more like a slave than a healthy wonderful person.

If you dig a little you'll find that piercing the ears is an acupuncture practice and metallurgy that's been done for thousands of years. Wearing gem stones and different metals has an effect on the body and can be used to help with ailments and health problems. It's hard to find good information about it past new age crap but the practice is an old one. There's acupuncture points on the earlobe that get pierced, unfortunately I'm not knowledgeable enough on the subject to go into depth but it certainly is a fascinating subject to look into.

Your example of why a tie might be a symbol of slavery is kinda funny to me since you could say the same thing about any part of ones clothing or their body when you "grab it condescendingly". Anything can be pointed at and proclaim "oh that's a symbol of slavery!". It's a useless thing to go around doing. Reminds me of xtards going around pointing at random shit and saying "oh it's a sign from jewsus!". Some versions of xtianity forbid piercings and tattoos despite it being a slave cult, but that's exactly the point. Piercings and tattoos are expressions, to forbid it is to forbid expressing yourself as cults enforce "sameness" as does slavery.

It would be more accurate to say that a mark of slavery is being stripped of desire, emotion expression, freedom, material things, health, wealth, and true spirituality etc. When what makes us fundamentally human and powerful is taken from us, that's the mark of a slave. The symbol image of that is someone who has nothing, lives for nothing, and is nothing. Not cuffs and rings and whatever. Branding a person, marking their body with a number or symbol of ownership was sometimes used to mark slaves if people want to nick pick at anything.

I think part of her problem is not eating properly (as shown in some of her videos during mealtimes), and bleaching her hair too much. I wanted to post some other videos for women, of one youtuber who has amazing hair tips, but if she also started losing her hair it would be tragic! Hers is so long and healthy.

Hmm, diet sure does impact a lot of things, everything from skin and hair health to immune system etc. It's moments like these I wish I'd had the sense to pursue further into nutritional health past basic studies, if only to broaden my knowledge.

Yeah that'd suck bad. There's a lot that can be said when someone takes the time to keep their body well cared for. You see it in animals too, the healthier the hair/fur the healthier the animal. It would be great to have some posts for women, I know many - myself included - would appreciate them. I'll admit, I'm prone to neglect when things get overwhelming. A couple years ago I went through a "shave it off" phase when my hair had suffered from bad times and curses.

I don't remember if I have already touched on this but recently I found an article on different seam finishes that I found pretty helpful when stuck on a personal project. They can be done by hand or on machine (the article shows examples for machine). If you want your seams to look crisp and flat like in the pictures use an iron - can also help to reduce the bulkiness of the seams. Small tip with a french seam, you can iron the little seam flap to lay sideways and that will help hold it in place somewhat and remain flat against the fabric.
