Are the Mars satellites (Phobos and Deimos) artificial?
Phobos, once identified, has been shown to simply defy the astral law of rotation, its period of revolution being shorter than the planet's own rotation time around its axis.No other satellite in our solar system violates that law.
But here's another oddity: Mars' two small moons rotate in opposite directions, even though their orbits are almost in the same plane! None of the hypotheses put forward have held up analytically, and the enigma persists.
Phobos, rotating close enough to the planet - at 5,980 km - and Deimos at 20,062 km, should both have had a slow fall to the ground. A surprising fact was found: the two satellites accelerated their rotational speed to overcome this tendency... From there, it was only a step to the fantastic: in 1951, the American astronomer Hard hypothesised that Phobos and Deimos were artificial satellites.
What do you think? Are the satellites artificial? Also, what most caught my attention was that the two rotate in opposite directions, just like MerKaBa, except that the satellites are not pyramid-shaped. Would they be related in some way?
