I decided to buy tarot cards and start learning tarot.
What would you recommend for me to learn tarot?
"Tarot plain and simple" by Anthony Louis is
great for beginners.
I personally would also recommend "Advanced Tarot" by Paul Fenton-Smith, it will give you very good insights and it's very complete.
These books are great if you're purchasing a rider-waite style deck (which are the best decks for beginners). If not, I would recommend "Cartomancy in folk witchcraft" by Roger J Horne.
In order to learn the meanings of the cards, I would suggest you to elaborate a study program. Studying tarot is beautiful. For example: for the Major Arcanas I would recommend to study one card per day in numerical order, following the journey of the Fool from the beginning to the end. Fool-Magician-High Priestess and so on... Pull one major arcana a day, study it's traditional meaning and the imagery, then meditate on the card and it's symbolism. Symbolism and Imagery is very important to understand the cards completely, expecially the Major Arcanas. The same very thing can be done for the minor arcanas. Study the esoteric meaning of the four suits and their correspondences, then study the cards of one suit from the ace to the ten. One suit a day can be optimal if you have time. I would study the court cards at the end.
Memorizing the traditional meanings of the cards is fundamental, but intuition plays a great role in reading tarot too. Do exercises and meditation to develop your intuition, learn how to ground yourself and center, and be unbiased when you do a reading(expecially when you're reading for yourself). And of course practice will perfectionate you're studies and general understanding of the Tarot.
