Many ask why the deeper truths of African spirituality remain shrouded in secrecy. The answer isn’t simple, but it is urgent.
1. Religious Suppression:
One of the primary reasons is that the Christian-Islamic regimes in Africa don't want these empowering truths of African spirituality to spread. So many of the African traditionalists are only allowed to exist if they don't educate the masses into empowerment. I.e., they are allowed to preach traditional "African religion" as long as it is very basic, external, superstitious, and useless to freeing minds.
2. Fear Within the Tradition:
The secondary reason is the insecurity African traditionalists have in themselves. Many of the ancient teachings were exploited by people and reversed against the masses. Some African traditionalists then think we should keep the teachings a secret. While this makes sense in the short run, the long run shows that the hidden treatment of the teachings has resulted in it being hidden from the masses who need it. While it is true that some will exploit the knowledge, it is twice as dangerous if the knowledge is then not given to the masses who need it to protect themselves.
3. Control by Corrupt Priesthoods:
The third reason is neither due to fear of Christian-Islamic oppressors nor fear that the knowledge will be exploited, but about the corrupt priesthood's desire to control the knowledge and oppress the ignorant. In this, they are in bed with the Christian-Islamic oppressors.
Most traditional African religion, as it is presented today, is sadly corrupted by its leaders. Many priests are not even held accountable for the donations they receive or for doing anything with them. He is not required to build actual temples (his basement where he performs these rituals is NOT a temple) for the community to congregate, schools for the youth, health clinics, publish books to spread the word, or even provide regular free teachings through social media. Basically, he pockets all of it. While money is needed for a spiritual organization to flourish, they must in return provide community facilities, blogs, or books to spread the word, etc.
In antiquity, when we had food "sacrifices" it was not to feed statues, but to feed the community. We were not as superstitious as those today. Our rituals were practical and around feeding actual humans (not ghost gods or "fetishes") or providing institutions for them to thrive. Most Traditional African religions, as explained by their leaders today, also do not claim that the human is a divinity. Like Abrahamic mythology, they keep you worshipping ghost beings and doing rituals to beg the beings to rescue you.
Worst of all Traditional African religion of today is centered on superstitious resolutions for your problems. You are not trained to harness your own inner divine power to overcome obstacles, nor are you trained to develop your critical thinking skills. It is for this reason that most Traditional African religions became useless and allowed Africa to be vulnerable to enslavement and colonization. Most Africans realized this and then abandoned the traditional African religion for the Abrahamic cults. However, that too was a big mistake. What we were supposed to do is FIX the tradition and repair it to its useful state, not abandon it.
I know many of you will think I am too hard on Traditional African religion. I am not, I just don't want to see my people continue down the wrong road. It is key that you understand that the spiritual systems of Africa were once the most profound and useful things, but what we are taught about it by our own traditionalists is NOT what it was in ancient times. These became corrupted when the priesthood was killed and slavetrading began, then corrupt African slavetraders took on the role of traditional priests and kept Africa in turmoil.
The time has come to reclaim, revive, and share African spiritual knowledge through Zevism as a source of empowerment, identity, and liberation. What is hidden can no longer stay buried.
