What's going on in Egypt

I've seen in the news lately about some statues and sphinx's being restored and stuff like that. Along with any discussion about Egypt comes the arguments about who built the pyramids and who exactly were the ancient Egyptians. I remember seeing something about how they tested the DNA of mummified pharoahs and it closely matched to the DNA of Europeans. Sorry if this topic has been covered before but does anyone have any input?
