Over the past year I have been reading a lot. Many of these books have had profound effects of me. Here are my reccomendations:

Essential reading:
A history of religious ideas (Vol.1 + 2) - Mircea Eliade (the second volume is the best but the first must be read)

The Hermetic Tradition - Julius Evola (a complete, comprehensive analysis of alchemical thought, symbolism and language, probably the best book I have ever read and likely will require multiple readings)

Yoga: immortality and freedom - Eliade (from the perspective of a historian rather than an esotericist. Despite this, Eliade was himself an accomplished yogi and it shows in this work)

The Yoga of Power - Evola (a handbook for any practicing yogi)

Highly reccomended:
The Kybalion - Three Initiates (as an intro to metaphysics)

Thus spake Zarathustra - Nietszche (what I find remarkable about this book is that, despite being written by an 'atheist', his personal philosophy can AND SHOULD be applied to all spiritual endeavors)

Revolt against the modern world - Evola (this is a weird one and should be read critically, as with everything else here. It isnt really a book of political philosophy as you might think, but an esoteric lens through which to view all of history and its spiritual decline. If it is even 10% correct, this book is exceptional)

Meditations - Marcus Aurelius (personal philosophy, not metaphysical)

The Doctrine of awakening - Evola (must be read with an open mind, avoiding all preconceived notions of what Buddhism actually is - take from it what is valuable and discard what you choose to discard, at your own risk)

Art of the Bedchamber: The Chinese Sexual Yoga Classics Including Women's Solo Meditation Texts - Douglas Wile (while this seems niche and bizzare, I was astounded at how good this book was. A comprehensive analysis of Chinese sexual yoga from an empirical point of view, not clouded by dogma like most writings on the subject, which will open your eyes to this practice and will also deeply inform your understanding of all Chinese alchemy)

Initiation into Hermetics - Franz Bardon (loses steam a bit and advocates techniques of questionable efficacy, but the first half is really sound)

Highly reccomended if you are interested in the subject matter:
The Crucible and the Forge - Eliade (an ethnological study of alchemical theology and its antecedents)

A history of religious ideas (Vol.3) - Eliade

Shamanism: Archaic techniques of ecastasy - Eliade

Metaphysics of war - Evola

The mystery of the grail - Evola

Eros and the mysteries of love, the metaphysics of sex - Evola

The sacred and the profane - Eliade

House of Leaves - Danielewski (completely fictional but I wanted to include it because I loved it and religious/mythological symbolism is deeply embedded in it)

The Shiva Samhita

Al Jilwah: Chapter IV

"It is my desire that all my followers unite in a bond of unity, lest those who are without prevail against them." - Shaitan
