Slaves in Egypt?

Hello brothers and sisters

A couple of days ago my parents forced me to watch a christian movie unfortunately and it was about joseph and how he was at Egypt. I wasn't paying a lot of attention but I saw how when joseph was there he was a slave with a couple others and they were praying to the god Amon Ra. I know he is a God but did they have slaves at those times or did christianity alter the history of Egyptian times? If they actually had slaves at those times what was the purpose? Well thanks for your time and I hope I get an answer soon.
