Not sure, but worth a shot - rib essentially twists inside the joint

Okay, so I'm not sure whether there's anything to do here, but hopefully so :)So like in the title, my rib likes to move in place. Like the joint to the back, it moves in that joint. This just happens randomly for no reason at all (none that I've found, at least). Sometimes I'll even be sitting down not moving and it'll happen. The rib itself goes back to normal within 24 hours, but of course the muscles surrounding it hurt for about 5 days more (sore). When this happens, it is hard to breathe (essentially feels like a bruised rib). If I breathe shallow, it's fine, but if I even breathe normal deep then it hurts like crazy. Info about me: 5'9 aryan male weighing around 180 lbs. I eat mostly all organic, lots of meats, and grains. Not a lot of Vegetables or fruits (working on that). I go to the gym about 4 times a week (strength training, I don't care about bulking up). Um. Not really sure what else you'd need, ask away. This has been happening for about... 3-4 years I think.

I had something similar happen to me when I was in my late teens, when I had bronchitis and was coughing a lot, and the rib would move up and down. It doesn't do that anymore though.
Did you ever have an illness that made you cough a lot? That's also a possibility.

I've racked my brains ever since it started. Nothing that I've thought of that would have caused it.

I don't understand what you mean. Is your rib shorter on one side? I have a problem with my left ribcage, it is smaller but becase of tight intercostal muscles. My issue is connected with mild scoliosis, just letting you know in case you have a similar issue. I never really had breathing problems though.

Nope. Ribs are the same length, and correct length. It happens on both sides, same place (on each side). Usually not at the same time though.
I used to have mild scoliosis, but have been free of that for years.
