Karma busting mantras.

I watched a youtube video from Dattetrya Siva Baba, and he described Karma (not in terms of being consequences for good or bad deeds) but in terms of it being desires or beliefs from past lives which rest in our unconscious and manifest against our will.
Is this correct?
He also said that Karma can block our conscious attempts to manifest our desires and that it is possible to remove our Karma with mantras and suggested this mantra 'THIRU NEELA KANTAM'

Could someone with a bit more knowledge tell me if this is true or not and whether to trust this, as he does bring a lot of detrimental right hand path teachings into spirituality but I'm just curious of this mantra.
