Flame Meditation Problems

So I've been trying to do Flame Meditation and in the past I've had little problems with it after I got the hang of it. But over the last couple days I've been unable to do the meditation as there is no image to consentrate on when I close my eyes.

Typically I like to stare at the flame for a bit longer than 2 minutes, around 4 to 5 minutes give or take. I feel it helps boost my ability to concentrate or is great practice in the long run.

What i do see when I close my eyes is occasionally moving darkness, some shapes, and an shadow outline of a person. Usually I chalked all this up to my third eye which I know isn't fully open or visualization or whatever. If I'm wrong let me know please.

Can someone tell me what is going on and why I can't do this meditation as well as I used too or comment on what the shadows are? Any help will be appreciated.

I would recomend taking a break from this meditation and moving onto another. A good meditation that is similar to this, but the next step, is to focus on an image (lets say Satan's sigil for example) for 2-5 mins. Then close your eyes and visulise this in your mind. This is just the same as the flame meditation, but replacing the flame with something else.

As for the flame meditation in itself, I would highly discouraging going to extended periods of time looking at the flame. When you are new, 3-4 mins is okay (if you're doing it once a day or so) but any longer can be dangerous and will damage your eyes. So be carful of this. To improve your ability, you should be spending less and less time looking at the flame. Say, start out at 4 mins each session. Then take it down to 3, then 2, then 1, then maybe just a quick glance. And continue to try keep the image in your mind afterwards for as long as you can, or longer. A good way of timing with your eyes closed is to put on some soft music with the rough time length of the amount you want to time. This way you don't have to focus so much on counting.

As for the shadows, these could most definatly be your third eye. This exercise will help to activate your third eye and astral vision, so it would come as no surprise that you would be beginning to see things.

Another note, are you doing the flame meditation in the dark? If not, try this, as this could help.
