I'm not sure what to do. My wife left me several months ago due to a feeling that we hadn't had a strong connection and because she hadn't forgiven me for some inappropriate behavior in the past. I don't know the whole story and what you did to her to make her not forgive you, did you cheat on her? Violence? I do believe that I am truly in love with her as opposed to simply lonely but let her down and maybe didn't try hard enough to connect with her. I appreciate your frank and sincere advice.

No violence and while I didn't sleep with other women I did have a problem with pornography years ago before I quit. I was sadly more nihilistic and agnostic at the time and I'm deeply ashamed that I didn't take life or my relationship seriously enough perhaps. I think even if I had behaved better though there were other problems, but it wasn't that I didn't love her. I guess from her perspective she tried really hard for a long time to build a happy life with me but felt it wasn't working like we didn't have enough in common or a strong bond. Perhaps I'm at fault for that too. I know I brought this on myself in some ways and it's all very unseemly to show weakness and I apologize that maybe this isn't the right place to discuss such things. Why don't you focus on yourself for a period of time? Meditate more, analyze things better, let your emotions calm down and then you can analyze the situation better. Maybe in the end you'll realize that you want to move on too. Sometimes it takes a long time to get through this grieving phase of a breakup.
