The title says it all. I have sent this to Maxine to be uploaded to the files sections of these groups. This will be a PDF containing images of my own Alter to help give an example of how it can turn out. In the mean time I'm posting it here for all those who need.
I would like to add a note. This is a very basic Alter. Although the Gods aren't terribly fussed about us getting every tool and alter precise, they understand if we cannot afford silver chalices and burning bowls, expensive athames and all the other items used in ritual/on your Alter. It is advised that when you come to a point where you can afford to 'upgrade' your alter, to do so. This is done out of respect for the Gods, and to take pride in being a Spiritual Satanist, and to take pride in your own creative flare and expressing yourself through your alter. The alter should be treated with respect and reverence.
And also, sorry for the length. It will be easier to manage as a PDF once it is up.
This is a guide to make a simple, small alter of your very own from items around the house. This should be used only for Your Satanic rituals to insure that it is kept safe and pure. All items can be consecrated if you feel it necessary (this can be found at http://JoyOfSatan.Org). NOTE: This guide is based of my own alter; you can customize anywhere you like. Equipment required includes: · Plank of wood the size you would like your Alter. · Saw to cut the wood if need be. · Paint black paint and any other colour you would like to use for sigils. · Paint brush · Paper for printing sigils and baphomet. · White Cardboard (or a thick paper if you can get this). For sigils. · Scissors · Sticky tape · Black permanent marker for tracing sigils/baphomet · Stanley knife cutting out sigils/baphomet · Sandpaper Steps: 1. First Get your plank of wood and do your measurements, this will be used as the base for your Alter. Make sure that it is big enough to fit all you want to put onto it without clutter. 2. If you need to cut your wood. Measure out where you will be cutting it and draw suitable lines for this. Then carefully cut as straight as you can along the lines. Afterwards sand the sides that you cut till smooth. 3. Once you have your wood the right size you want it, sand the whole thing to ensure it is smooth and there isn't a risk of splinters. Round all the edges and corners of your alter so they are smooth and not sharp. This also helps in the application of the paint. 4. Paint your Alter Base black all over (allowing the paint to dry on one side before painting the other). Paint it with 3 coats at the least. You now have a Base for your Alter. NOTE: From here you can simply put your sigils and whatever other images you choose to use on your Alter into a photo frame if you like, and have one available. It doesn't have to be expensive or fancy, any will do. 5. Print out an easy to trace Baphomet and one of Satan's two sigils (you can use both if you like as well as the sigils of any Gods you want). 6. Cut around the Baphomet, then with the stanley knife carefully cut out all the white bits. This will give you the `skeleton' of the Baphomet. (This step can also be done on cardboard if your printer can print on cardboard, this will lessen the risk of ripping the `skeleton'). 7. On all of your pieces of cardboard that you will trace your Baphomet/sigils onto, rule a line at 3cm from the bottom, and do not use this bit (we will use this to create a stand). 8. Carefully place the Baphomet where you want it positioned on the cardboard, and sticky tape it down, be careful not to rip it or move it. 9. Trace around the paper and where you cut out with the black marker. 10. Remove the Baphomet and color in (with the same marker) the Baphomet you just made on the cardboard. Be careful not to go outside the lines. 11. Once the marker has dried you can now paint your Baphomet. To do this get any color you like (I chose red) and just paint the whole piece of cardboard however you like. (Make sure you don't paint below the 3cm line you drew before). 12. Once this is done you can then do the same with any of the sigils you chose. These will be easier then the baphomet for most sigils. 13. Once your Baphomet/sigils are complete and are dry, you need to fold back where the line is 3cm from the bottom. 14. Now with this section of blank cardboard, you need to cut 3 even flaps. Each flap should be roughly 7cm for an A4 size sheet. 15. Fold the two side flaps backwards, and fold the middle one forward. What this does is creates a tripod effect, so the Baphomet/sigil can stand on its own. It may take some time to position it right to stand properly. 16. Next get all you Alter tools and place them how you like onto your Alter. And there you have it, your very own homemade Alter, Ready for Ritual. This should be placed on a clean black cloth that is only used for going under your Alter if you are using this on the ground. If you would like to add legs to it please feel free to. And please, I would love feedback from all that use this guide to create their very own Alters. So feel free to take photos of your creations and send them in.
