Can the death cult religions cause amnesia and brain damage?

I will not name the 2 religions I am referring to, because we all know who they are, but I am making this post because from time to time I feel like information is falling into my lap and make me see even more absurd things.
If you talk to any xtian abuser, they never happen to remember anything bad they did, if you mention child abuse (including sexual abuse) from their pedo priests they don't remember that either, they didn't hear it on the news blah blah.
Same with stupid islam, I see supposedly hardcore former muslims somehow getting in contact with their abusive family, or going back the same goals they abandoned when they supposedly became woke and running in a hamster wheel essentially, their childhood wasn't that abusive after all blah blah.
It's so strange.

My question is: do they remember but pretend they don't because they want to save face after walking back into the matrix (or soon to be metaverse) because reality was too hard or did the brainwashing from those religions causes some kind of brain damage and short term memory is being affected?
Any theories/opinions welcome!

Some pretend, others erase it all through confession and similar shit and in very rare cases they forget. The memory becomes like a dream, and you won't know if you really lived it or not.

The energy of these programs can tend to confuse a person and erase memories. In extreme they wont be able to remember much of their life at all (they are sensitive to spiritual things more so) it also causes issues with focus.
