This morning I was awoken by the sounds of a puppy whimpering either some where inside my house or outside the back or front door. It was loud enough that my dog was alert to it. He went from my room to the living room and then stood in an alert stance trying to figure out where the noise was coming from. As soon as I opened the front door he bolts into the yard, neither of us see anything that could be making the noise, and it stops all together. My dog is very vocal and grunt and sigh as if he is talking to you when you are playing with him. We go back inside and I tell him that we're going to check the backyard, his alert demeanor changes about this time.
Mind you, none of my neighbors has a puppy, they all have dogs, but they're adults. As soon as we go into the backyard I start to look around the yard, peek over the neighbors fences to be sure, all while my dog is trying to get me to play with him.
I want to think that maybe a neighbor did get a puppy and they brought it in as soon as it got loud. But part of me can't help but think it was my dog trying to get attention.
Are animals capable of such things?
