Golden figures, each one with chakras depicted and golden cross depicting shape of the soul, were found inside the burial mound in Opishlyanka in Ukraine.
The cross looks strangely damaged like partially molten, but its orientation is clearly correct because the animal head in the middle.
Scientists have come across richly decorated artifacts in the Opishlyanka barrow in Ukraine - among them figurines made of pure gold, the so-called "golden panthers," which were found next to cremated human bones. The discovery sheds new light on ancient cultures that inhabited the Eastern European region more than 2,600 years ago.
The discovery was made using state-of-the-art LIDAR technology, which made it possible to identify hidden structures in the ground. Archaeologists then proceeded to excavate the site, which revealed 52 unique artifacts - from intricately crafted gold figurines to gilded jewelry in the shape of a cross.
As experts from the Bilski Historical and Cultural Reserve point out, the cross - dating back to the 6th century BC. - suggests religious connections, but has no connection to Christianity.
The biggest stir was caused by the "golden panthers" - symbolic, richly decorated animal figures. Their style and form bring to mind the influence of Central Asian cultures, where the panther (or leopard) was widely present in art and mythology. In the Greek world, which was also influential in the Black Sea region at the time, such a motif was unknown.
