Because the physical body is a spiritual structure. That is why denying physical needs harms the soul. So just as many buildings are built in accordance with directions and power points of the Earth, we ourselves function in accordance with the Earth itself.

Along with what Symmachos said, because you are "going with the tide" rather than "against it" and allowing the waves to carry you. We do workings specifically based on whether the Moon is waning/waxing for the same reason.
