Void Meditation - What Exactly It Is and How It Works, Explained

Hello, I have read that the void meditation is not about completely clearing your mind, but instead focusing on one thing, and only that thing. If this is true, I have started a new void meditation practice where I play a sound ( I usually play bonfire with crackling sounds because it is really calming) and try to focus only on that. Does that work or I need to do my best to recreate the sound in my head and try to focus on it? I am still kind of confused.
Any help would be really appreciated

That's fine. Basically it's about single pointed focus.

Appreciate it. I have noticed that it is much easier to focus your mind on one thing than completely clearing your mind. I've been practicing this for few days already and found it much easier to do. And at one point I will stop listening to sounds and try to focus on one sound in my head without any (extra help) but I want to take it slowly. Again, really appreciate it.
