Recently I've been wondering, why do we leave offerings to those who have passed or even gods?

Surely it's not just out of respect, for example a spirit can feed off the energy from a burning candle and be able to communicate easier. Is the same true for flowers or food left on a tombstone? Especially when it comes to food there's many accounts of people offering milk to a god and right after comes a storm that washes it away(in a sense taking it or idk  ) or food that causes abnormally large growth of vegetation around when it decomposes.(i know that's whats supposed to happen when food decomposes, but the effect is supposed to be greater).

I say it is mere symbolic. And more for the left ones (relatives) then the passed one.

If you create a energy ball and offer it to the gods this will give them more energy then some flowers.

But they might enjoy the flowers more.
