Question #2271: Feeling of sympathy towards the communist countries/societies from the second half of the last century

Hello, first I want to state that I am not procommunist or something like that, not in the slightest, but as I grew older and became more aware of the world I became very confused. I don't live in a fantasy world like in my teens, and coming from a mental state where everything seemed awesome to what it is now its very demoralizing. I grew up in an excommunist country, and when I was young basically every adult lived during the commie years, or at least the 90s which were very much alike, as a kid I always lisened to their stories of the past, how was life back then, some sympathethic towards those years.

What I have sympathy for is the people of those ages and the way of life of commoners, in coparison with society in the west now, nothing political, I tend to look more at the social aspect of life lately. During teen years I was very much pro western in a sense, thinking people here are "insane", as I grew older those feeling withered aways, because my "hatred" towards people around me was because they didn't think weed is cool, and other rebelious shit that came from rap music, trends from the west and so on. Looking now at people I have a feeling, and mostly I see it everyday, that people from the west and teens here that are pretty much "american" have an insane set of morals, habbits, and a weird way of life in general.

Here people, are more grounded in real life or at least used to be, even with the commie brainwashing some were very much grounded in real life. People that lived during the commie years, are a lot more understanding in some aspects, yes they have lots of weird views on life due to propaganda and stuff, but in general as people in day to day life, they were super nice. People older, gave me freedom but with limitations, imposing some restrictions that were healthy, we're more understanding and more forgiving, and I had a sense of community. Again to clarify I'm talking about individual people and communities, not the political, or people opinions on political matters. What I extract from this is that in commie countries the problem was the "state", people holding the power, but individuals we're ok. What I feel looking at american life it's more like the society is a problem as much as its the state. Some years ago me and my friends we're always joking that if a nuke hit USA it wouldn't be such a loss (to exemplify how we feelt about the west, I know it's an exagerated). It's so weird seeing how people are, how imature everyone is, and in the extreme how dangerous life there can be. My elders, and my dad who was around 30 when communism fell, has a very different perspective on life and in general a more healthy aproach, he'd been brainwashed by commie propaganda, but for example he knows when the situation is over si capabilities, also people here are actually maturing, they don't stop at 15y/o mental age, I see a lot of 20-23 starting families, without presure from the outside, and also people who don't want to start a family yet are not presured by the people around them (only old grandmas). My mother told me that my father had to kill the pigs in the farm from 16 since his father couldn't do it anymore. In the USA everything that puts a responsability on you or encountering hardships always leaves "intense depresion", "PTSD" from the most benign thing ever.

Now I see teens and young adult becoming more and more sjw/keyboard warrior, or westernized. Usually they are degenerate, nolifers so to speak, with their favorite hobby: scrolling tiktok. I see a lot of these people for example slandering some women for having a child at 22-23, because it's impossible to want a kid man>>>>>. They think they hold the absolute truth, and their beliefs inflicts so much damage, the only diference is that this damage comes more slowly, and hidden. Out of nowhere, some people come and say that almost everything I do or my parents did, or small villages, or communities are doing is entirely wrong, but the communities that I talk about produce healthy offspring, work the lands, and are honest and working people. An example is that "your father was to strict, it damaged you", they tell me this while smoking weed and drinking a glass of whiskey, <<<to relax bro>>>. Or the fact that I wanted to start working when I was 14 or something (cutting grass, or things like that) is bad you need freedom dude, escape the conservative mindset (no one ever forced me to work). How they would raise their youth would be like: play videogames until your like 22-23, then become a bilionare because you slay, you deserve it.

To clarify further, I see how this feed into the conservative mindset, I don't know what is good or not anymore, but what I talked about are values that I see them doing good being attacked by the western "freedom" or "righteousness". Here used to be people that don't start families because they don't want to, and they are actually a well off mature people (not a 35 year old anime type girl/boy streamer that doesn't want to start a family) there were people going in all directions. But now if the direction you are going it's not degenerate, or extremely hedonistic, you are not doing it good bro.

I know that everyone knows those insane commie old men or women that are a pain in the ass, but besides these, I don't really feel hatred towards someone of those times. I know that there are tons and tons of problems in eastern Europe, and I didn't mention them, but still society in the east seems a lot more healthy than the west. From what I think is that back then, the state was so opresive and totalitarian, the only way to survive was to have tight communities with healthy ways of life, and what is in america now is more like communism 2.0, more powerfull, and wide spread. I also know, because I never lived in the USA for example, I don't know how life is there, but from the internet I have an intense feeling of disgust towards what people believe on their own acord, how they manage certain problems, and in a sense fear that the world would become like that.

Am I indoctrinated? I am very confused, and I don't know what is good or what is bad right now, I might have watched too much western media, youtube, and streams, and it confused me a lot. Truth is that I also have a lot of bad habbits smoking tobacco, videogames, drinking casually, etc... I'm in a very bad place right now, and it feels imposible to detach from the internet and quit videogames and tobacco. I started feeling a lot of guilt for mistakes, feeling very bad in general, and because of that I feel totally lost.

There are multiple elements here.

1. Confirmation bias. You don't know any people who were disappeared, murdered or forced to leave by these regimes. So taking to boomers who perhaps had it good during those years is a distorted picture.

2. Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria, due to not really 'wanting' communism, often had a distinct type of regime governing them than the USSR. It was still brutal, but the standard of living in a place like Hungary was better than the USSR itself. Poland and Romania were somewhere inbetween.

3. The communist tendencies of the USSR and those of the modern West come from different angles. In the USSR, being a kulak or enemy of the state was grounds for being murdered, after those were annihilated the 'mission statement' in whomever was meant to be exterminated started to become confused. In the West, the tendency is psychological and more analogous to xianity. 'Privilege', 'intersectionality' and the rest of the garbage tends to be relentlessly pushed on people's minds through social media, the workplace and all kinds of crap media rather than the state, it doesn't shape their material conditions as such and isn't necessarily at gunpoint. It is also exhibited more fanatically by actual members of the public than communism ever was, because 'disadvantaged' groups like infected women, trans and all kinds of racial diaspora groups in their minds have everything to 'gain'.

Regardless there are still similarities. Both of these are tied to resentment root and branch. Ridiculous hatred of kulaks for the evil act of 'owning a scythe' cost tens of millions of lives.

4. Yes, it is true there was a backlash to these conditions meaning one had to act in a certain way. But this also came with an incredible psychological cost for those who survived communism. Most Eastern European countries stopped breeding way before Western or woke influences started seeping in.

5. On the other hand, a lot of the standards of woke, enabled by surveillance, mobs of social media bullies and smartphones, are so absolutely insane and restrictive that no human society ever adhered to these in any way whatsoever because they just mean death. General Yeager brought this up before regarding marriage age, and so on. You can't run a functioning society like this.
