In my experience, if you do too much of a mudra, it can definitely push you in the opposite direction. You want to be balanced, not entirely devoid of air. It may also take a few days to feel better, as the body begins to heal, now in balance. Also, you may have to use the mudra on and off until you can get a permanent spiritual solution.
Go based on the symptoms you are experiencing, which for most people correlate to their natal constitution. Some symptoms may be secondary symptoms, which may prove confusing. For example, yin deficiency can lead to yang deficiency, but the problem here is not too much Kapha, but rather too little, which eventually destroyed the yang as well.
