That's what happened to me, there could be many things involved such as a lot of karmic obstacles accumulated from many past lives between the two and even curses from the enemy.
Then apart if you wish to separate your soul from the other person in a definitive way it can take a lot of time and work to completely remove all the connections, karmic and emotional ties that had accumulated for centuries.
