There are many benefits to journaling.
But one thought I wanted to bring to mind is journaling as a matter of self worth. If you genuinely care about growing as a person and growing in your wise understanding of life, your thoughts will, at some point, become valuable.
At a certain level, not writing down your thoughts for further elaboration and reflection is simply disrespecting yourself, your mind, and the forces that have brought you the knowledge you have realized.
At some point, you must admit that you value yourself enough to know that your thoughts are worth more than a passing ephemeral glance. Or realize that you don't value yourself in this way, and assess why.
