Coronavirus: Dutch adopt controversial ‘herd immunity’ strategy
Prime minister Mark Rutte says ‘large part’ of population will be infected

The Netherlands will aim to develop immunity to coronavirus among its population by allowing large numbers to contract the illness at a controlled pace, prime minister Mark Rutte announced in a national address on Monday.

“The reality is that in the near future a large part of the Dutch population will be infected with the virus,” Mr Rutte said. “We can slow down the spread of the virus while building controlled group immunity.”

“It can take months or even longer to build group immunity, and during that time we need to shield people at greater risk as much as possible.”

The idea of developing group immunity to coronavirus, also known as Covid-19, is controversial. It has been supported by Sweden’s state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell and Britain’s chief scientific adviser Patrick Vallance. But the World Health Organisation (WHO) has questioned its basis in evidence.

“We don’t know enough about the science of this virus, it hasn’t been in our population for long enough for us to know what it does in immunological terms,” said WHO spokeswoman Dr Margaret Harris.

“Every virus functions differently in your body and stimulates a different immunological profile. We can talk theories, but at the moment we are really facing a situation where we have got to look at action.”

Limited evidence
Dr Judith Wasserheit, chair of the University of Washington department of global health and co-director of the MetaCenter for Pandemic Preparedness and Global Health Security, said there is limited evidence for the approach and that it would be difficult to protect the vulnerable.

“It would be quite challenging to separate older adults from potentially infectious younger members of the population,” Dr Wasserheit said.

“In addition, we do not know how frequently immunity occurs after infection with this virus, and if it occurs, how strong that immunity is and how long it lasts.”

Only FFP3 mask can help against a virus. FFP2 only helps for not spreading a disease if you wear one.

OK, at this point, there must still be some skeptical readers out there. There’s no way that surgical masks can capture particles that small! I saw a doctor on Quora say that “most masks” can’t capture particles the size of viruses.

By the way, that's exactly how the situation in Italy got out of control - the doctors got infected, and they infected all other patients, which is the worst thing that could've happened, as they are the most vulnerable people, the ones with chronic illnesses. That's why the UK government advice to people with fever or flu symptoms to go to a hospital, but use online 111 advice and call 111 only if they cannot cope with their symptoms at home, they are getting worse or their symptoms are not improving after 7 days.

A mask won't protect you in any way. To protect yourself you need to stock up food, water, medical supplies, and self-defense weapons.

The good news is that the coronavirus is not that dangerous (unless you have chronic illnesses, and low immune system), and that in some countries the measures the governments are taking to fight the coronavirus are not ruining the whole economy of the country, (such as the UK, Switzerland, and a few others) and things won't go as bad there.

When I was reading the articles, the conclusion was, it doesn't matter what amount of protection you are putting on, ANYTHING is better than nothing at all.

You can addinionally eat garlic raw the fumes protect/block the lungs against viruses:

"One of the best antiviral plants is garlic eat it raw uncooked and the fumes even cover the lungs from viruses (not sure how safe but it works against) etc. Might be a cheap solution, for people who can´t get a mask, and a nother + point people avoid you so less infection risk. Better smell then be ill or death.

ginger is also antiviral. But it can´t couver the lungs (no fumes)"

You'd need to eat one raw clove of garlic a day. over time this also ramps up in costs..
Also garlic is bloodthinning, can be used against parasites and infections.

I dont know if youve ever eaten raw garlic before but it is a bit like eating a pepper, the way your mouth reacts. Just saying.

Also, what good would it do to your body if you kept eating garlic? would it kill beneficial bacteria too?
